How did you plan your wedding?
Avanti was working in New York so it was difficult to
plan the wedding from across the globe. Goutham was in
London most of the time and really didn't want to be left
to organise the wedding! I think a bloke's worst
nightmare! To add to this challenge our family and friends
have so many different ideas which were great but we
needed one person to pull all this together to come up
with a wedding to remember. This key person was Anita
Patel, our wedding planner, who was recommended by family
friend who recently got married with their wedding
organised by Anita.
We couldn't have made this day possible without Anita.
She was so easy going, flexible to our needs and wants.
She always had her eye on the bigger picture as well as on
the details of the day which can often be overlooked. She
was very open to listening to our ideas and ensuring our
personalities came through throughout the day. Most
importantly she put our ideas into practice and made this
possible. She works with a variety of great suppliers
which really saved us a great deal of time and effort. I
would definitely recommend her to all and sundry!
What did the bride wear?
For the Hindu ceremony I wore a red and burnt orange
saree with mirror work and intricate embroidery giving a
rajasthani look. A cream and dusky pink saree for the
civil wedding. A turquoise brocade silk fishtail skirt and
halter neck top with delicate antique gold zardozi
embroidery and coin work.
What did the groom wear?
Goutham wore a traditional Indian outfit during the
Indian ceremony, a short kurta embroidered in antique gold
thread with a matching dhoti. For the civil ceremony he
wore a steel grey suit complimented with a pink tie.
Lastly for the reception he wore A dark grey suit with an
embroidered waistcoat and shocking turquoise cravat as a
finishing touch coordinating with Avanti.
Describe the wedding. Were there any particularly
memorable moments?
I think this was an extremely memorable day for all our
friends and family. We received many thank you cards and
many of our family and friends mentioned that 'it was the
most amazing wedding they had been to.' Also family and
friends no matter what their age enjoyed the day as there
was something for everyone. Friends had said there was
surprise after surprise
you didn't know what to
expect next!
Most memorable moments included the cocktails in the
courtyard with the bollywood jazz band who were fantastic,
the innovative cake including the father of the bride on
top, the funny and witty speeches, the fire eater, Honey
Kalaria's fantastic bollywood dance performance, Meera and
Jaymin Patel (our friends) doing a dance for us, the
themed dancefloor/moghul tent, saxophone player walking us
into the reception - take your pick!
What Kind Of Food Did You Have?
For the wedding we had Traditional South Indian thali
lunch with mango and pistachio kulfi ice-cream for
dessert. For the reception we had a South Indian banquet
and amazing petit - fours, profiterole towers for dessert
in a separate dessert marquee.
Our wedding caked by Hockley;s comprised three suitcases
with the bride and groom and father of the bride on the
top of the cake (as a joke!). the groom had a laptop on
his lap as Goutham is always associated with this and
Macy's, SAKs and Gucci shopping bags near the bride as she
loves shopping. Very personalised as we always travel a
lot. It was a rich chocolate fudge cake which we dug into
in the early hours of the morning.
