The First Dance

The Beginning Of A New Life Together....
The first dance will be one of the most romantic and memorable moments of your wedding, a really private moment for you and your spouse to cherish. This is the first time you will dance together as husband and wife, symbolizing the beginning of a new life together. It should be a beautiful moment of intimacy where you can celebrate and enjoy yourselves.

Any nervousness surrounding the first dance will wash away once you and your spouse take to the dance floor and as the song symbolizing your love fills the room you will find that both of you are confident and happy.

By preparing in advance you will be able to relax and have fun with each other, enjoying your special moment. Don't think of this as a performance, which will impress your guests, but as a way of connecting with each other in a very special way.

Choosing The Right Song
Choosing the right song for your first dance is one of the most agonizing decisions you and your fiancée are likely to have to make. The song should not only be personally significant and meaningful to both of you but should also adequately convey to the guests the unique bond that you share. From a wedding guest's perspective it is always refreshing to see and hear an atypical song that obviously has a special meaning for the happy couple.

If one song doesn't do justice to your feelings for each other, choose two! This is especially helpful when two cultures hold equal importance for the couple or if the couple want to slow dance and then enjoy a faster (Bhangra, Bollywood or Salsa) number together.

In Tune With The Band?
Will the band be playing your song or will you be dancing to a recording? This decision will affect how you rehearse the song. If you have been practicing to a certain recording of your song, be sure to make a copy for your bandleader so that he/she understands exactly what type of tempo you are expecting. The same song may be played in many different ways, so it is important to communicate to avoid surprises on your wedding day!

Two Left Feet?
If you're apprehensive about being in the limelight, practice dancing with a willing dance partner or take dance lessons to ease your worries. With a little bit of preparation you can dazzle your friends and family as you move to the beat of your song. Partner dancing is a skill like any other and with a bit of practice, any couple can take the spotlight with confidence on their big day.

The two most common approaches to prepare for the first dance are to take lessons or use an instructional video. This is definitely time well spent. Remember that this will be something that the two of you can share forever. There will always be plenty of opportunities to enjoy your dancing skills- at a friend's wedding, a dinner function, or even a nightclub.

If you have trouble finding a teacher that you like, or if time and money are considerations, you may want to try learning to dance from an instructional videotape.. This will allow you to learn at any time and in the privacy of your home, which is ideal if either of you are nervous about learning to dance. Some people find that they feel under pressure with the constant attention of an instructor in a private lesson, and they are too shy or self-conscious to learn in a group.

No matter how you decide to tackle the learning process, remember to be supportive and have patience with each other's difficulties. The reward will be well worth the effort.

Capture The Moment!
Now that you've chosen the perfect song and learnt how to dance to it with grace and finesse, make sure that the moment is captured on video. The videographer should have the whole of the first dance in video with the song audio prevalent.

Ask the photographer to take pictures from varying angles and if possible in both colour and black and white. Some of the best wedding pictures come from the first dance
